Job Description

Our ambitious and exciting vision is to work at local, national and international levels, leading innovation and sustainable development in agriculture and rural sectors.SRUC are looking to welcome an experienced Animal Care Instructor to our Aberdeen campus. The successful candidate will be responsible for instructing our Animal Care and Veterinary Nursing students.In this role you will:

  • arrange/organise and develop materials for practical teaching as required
  • ensure the smooth day to day running of the Animal Care Unit (ACU) including contribution to weekend, holiday and emergency cover rotas as required
  • ensure the care and welfare of all animals in the ACU working with department staff to maintain high standards
  • liaise with department staff to ensure co-ordination and smooth teaching delivery
  • instruct and assess students in a range of practical skills
  • provide constructive feedback to learners on their performance
  • conduct student practical assessment in accordance with Awarding Body and Regulatory Body standards
  • maintain appropriate records of teaching and assessment
  • maintain appropriate records of attendance and achievements
  • undertake administration for external bodies as required
  • adhere to safe working practices at all times and to assist with health and safety advice and support including the delivery of safety inductions.
  • ensure the purchase of cost-effective materials from suppliers working within stated budgets
  • manage, audit and maintain all stock and resources/equipment needed in the support of curriculum areas ensuring staff and students are able to utilise equipment as and when required
  • attend Careers Evenings, College promotional events, local and national shows as required
  • participate in team meetings and staff development activities
